According to our report, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticized the federal government for neglecting the health sector, frustrating medical professionals with unpaid benefits, poor welfare policies, and unfulfilled promises. Speaking at the 51st NEC meeting of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), NLC President Joe Ajaero condemned the government’s preference for foreign medical treatment over strengthening local healthcare.
Ajaero warned that health workers—overworked, underpaid, and disrespected—are the backbone of the nation, and their neglect threatens the entire working class. He urged medical professionals to unite, highlighting the link between government neglect and the growing “brain drain.”
Calling for political mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections, Ajaero encouraged workers to form a movement to secure better wages, improved conditions, and adequate funding for public health institutions, stressing that collective action is key to real change.
