Media personality and fashion entrepreneur Noble Igwe has advised Nigerians to rethink their priorities during the Christmas season, urging them to focus less on extravagant Detty December celebrations and more on reconnecting with family and loved ones.
In a heartfelt message shared during the festive period, Igwe stressed that Christmas should be a time for reflection, bonding, and meaningful connections rather than an endless cycle of parties, luxury outings, and social events. According to him, while celebrations and leisure have their place, they should not replace the deeper purpose of the season, which is family and togetherness.
Igwe encouraged Nigerians, particularly those living in major cities and abroad, to make conscious efforts to return home and spend time with their parents, siblings, and extended family members. He noted that as people pursue success, careers, and financial stability, they often overlook the importance of nurturing relationships with those closest to them.
Sharing his thoughts, Igwe said, “Go home, see your aged parents, see your siblings, and spend time with loved ones during Christmas. It does not matter how much you earn; do it when you can and do it for the memories. Nothing is promised.”
He explained that memories created with family members, especially elderly parents, are far more valuable than money or material possessions. According to him, no amount of wealth can replace moments spent laughing, sharing stories, and simply being present with loved ones who may not always be around.
The fashion entrepreneur also pointed out that many Nigerians, especially those in the diaspora, struggle with balancing work commitments, travel logistics, and the pressure to participate in festive social activities. As a result, returning home during the holidays often gets postponed or completely overlooked.
Igwe’s message struck a chord with many people who see Christmas as one of the few opportunities in the year to reconnect with family members they rarely see. For others, it served as a reminder that life is unpredictable, and postponing family time in pursuit of money or enjoyment can lead to regret.
