As the year winds down and Nollywood gears up for its busiest cinema season, December 2025 is shaping up to be one of the industry’s most exciting months yet, with four major titles already building massive anticipation and driving conversations across social media.
From epic folklore storytelling to emotional family drama, holiday chaos, and character-led comedy, this year’s December slate offers a refreshing variety that highlights the industry’s evolving creativity, stronger production value, and the growing presence of star-led projects.
At the centre of the line-up is Colours of Fire, a visually rich drama directed by Niyi Akinmolayan and anchored by standout performances from Gabriel Afolayan, Osas Ighodaro, Ibrahim Chatta, and Mercy Aigbe.
The film follows the journey of a warrior sent on a dangerous mission to hunt a mythical beast believed to have been unleashed by rival clans.
But the story quickly deepens, revealing a web of secrets, forbidden romance, and a moral dilemma that forces the hero to choose between preserving his clan’s honour and embracing a love that could either unite or destroy their worlds.
From its trailer and early behind-the-scenes photos, Colours of Fire promises breathtaking costume work, strong Yoruba cultural detailing, and an emotional core that sets it apart.
As a review, the film already feels like a triumph for the genre, with its world-building, cast chemistry, and elevated production design signalling Akinmolayan’s most ambitious project since The Man for the Job.
Toyin Abraham’s Oversabi Aunty, dropping December 19, offers a completely different tone. The drama-comedy centres on Toun, a self-righteous church usher whose obsession with correcting others slowly turns her family into collateral damage.
Abraham, who both produced and directed the film, taps into her signature humour while also presenting a character who is both relatable and frustrating.
The film’s narrative shines in how it balances humour with the consequences of excessive moral policing, climaxing in a chaotic and embarrassing wedding introduction that forces everyone to confront the toxicity hidden under “holy correction.”
As a review, Oversabi Aunty stands out for its ensemble cast — Mike Ezuruonye, Efe Irele, Jemima Osunde, and Tana Adelana — all delivering grounded performances. It feels like a witty yet meaningful social commentary wrapped in light-hearted drama.
For those in the mood for festive chaos, A Very Dirty Christmas, produced by Ini Edo, blends comedy, holiday tension, and messy family drama into an entertaining December release.
The film brings together a powerful cast including Lateef Adedimeji, Nancy Isime, Elvina Ibru, Wumi Toriola, IK Ogbonna, Femi Branch, and Eucharia Anunobi.
With its December 16 release, it is well-positioned as the year’s major holiday title. The story follows tangled relationships, unexpected secrets, and the kind of heated family confrontations Nollywood audiences love, especially during the Christmas season.
Based on the trailer, the film leans heavily on charm, humour, and ensemble energy. As a review, it promises fun, drama, and memorable one-liners — a holiday crowd-pleaser.
Rounding out the month is Behind The Scenes, a heart-tugging drama produced by Funke Akindele and directed alongside Tunde Olaoye.
The film revolves around Aderonke “Ronky-Fella” Faniran, a beloved philanthropist and real estate mogul whose kindness eventually becomes her burden. Funke Akindele leads a powerhouse cast including Ibrahim Chatta, Dele Odule, Iyabo Ojo, Scarlet Gomez, Destiny Etiko, Ini Dima-Okojie, and Uche Montana.
The story explores the emotional cost of constantly giving without receiving, showing how a woman adored by everyone slowly loses herself while trying to meet expectations she never set for herself.
As a review, Behind The Scenes looks like a deeply personal film with strong emotional weight, beautifully delivered performances, and a message about self-preservation.
Together, these four films make December 2025 one of the most promising months Nollywood has seen in recent years, offering stories rich in culture, comedy, emotion, and festive energy — the perfect cinematic finale to the year.
