Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, has been conferred with the esteemed chieftaincy title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, in a grand ceremony held in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Mrs. Tinubu arrived at the palace around 1 PM on Sunday and was warmly received by the Ooni and his chiefs, amid a lively atmosphere and tight security arrangements.
The ceremony took place at the Palace Square, aligning with the 10th coronation anniversary celebrations of Oba Ogunwusi. The event drew notable traditional rulers and dignitaries from across Yorubaland and Nigeria, including the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III; the Sultan of Sokoto; and the Soun of Ogbomoso, alongside other cultural and community leaders.
The title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua holds historical significance, previously held by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, the wife of the legendary nationalist Chief Obafemi Awolowo. It recognises individuals for their leadership, societal influence, and contributions to the Yoruba cultural heritage.
This honour adds to a growing list of traditional titles conferred on Senator Tinubu this year, further cementing her role and influence within Nigeria’s cultural and social spheres.
