The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the National Assembly to pass the state police bill, highlighting the need to prioritize national security over political and ethnic differences. The report was published by Punch on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
In a statement by the state Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Steve Otaloro, the party expressed concern over rising threats such as banditry, kidnappings, and cross-border terrorism. The APC argued that while federal efforts, including deployment of personnel and acquisition of modern equipment, are commendable, they are insufficient to protect every community across Nigeria.
The party cited the legacy of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who pioneered the Amotekun Corps, a regional security network created to complement federal agencies in tackling local security challenges. APC commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for continuing these efforts, including strengthening Amotekun’s training, operational capabilities, and coordination with federal security agencies.
With the National Assembly currently deliberating constitutional amendments that would allow states to establish their own police forces, the APC called for swift legislative action. The party emphasized that setting aside partisan politics and passing the bill is essential for national unity and improved security.
