PDP convention: NEC members set high bar for incoming chairman

Ibadan, Oyo State—As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prepares for its national convention in November, members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) have outlined key expectations for the next national chairman, emphasizing inclusive leadership, internal reconciliation, and party unity ahead of the 2027 general election.

Former PDP national secretary, Ibrahim Tsauri, and Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, expressed confidence that the incoming chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) will revitalize the party, restore credibility, and ensure discipline within its ranks.

The NEC reaffirmed the party’s zoning arrangements, reserving the 2027 presidential ticket for the South and the national chairman position for the North, with recent micro-zoning favoring the North-West. Northern leaders, led by Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, endorsed former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), as the consensus candidate. However, some stakeholders reportedly favor Sule Lamido or Samuel Ortom, citing lack of consultation.

Tsauri emphasized that the next leadership must uphold party supremacy, constitutional adherence, and fairness, while Osadolor urged the incoming chairman to adopt a spirit of listening, engagement, harmonization, and sacrifice for the party and Nigeria at large.

Both leaders expressed optimism that PDP will bounce back stronger, attract returning members, and remain the country’s truly national political party.
