According to our report, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has issued a stern warning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership, urging urgent reforms to address the party’s deepening crisis.
Speaking amid ongoing defections and leadership struggles, Fayose told Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum that the party is in a “prolonged state of ailment” and requires immediate strategic direction. He dismissed claims that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is behind PDP’s problems, insisting that internal mismanagement and self-interest are the true causes of its decline.
Fayose emphasized that governors and key stakeholders leaving the party are motivated by personal ambitions and awareness of the PDP’s weakening political influence. He warned that if nothing is done, more defections could follow, further crippling the party’s structure.
While he distanced himself from the internal power struggles and national office ambitions, Fayose noted that those responsible for the party’s instability “know themselves,” highlighting internal sabotage and factionalism as major threats.
The former governor concluded that without renewed focus, unity, and leadership accountability, the PDP risks continued decline, making a strategic overhaul imperative.
