The police have recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux vehicle belonging to the Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo and arrested a suspect in connection with the theft.
The Chief Press Secretary to Gwarzo, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 said the thieves accessed the Government House through its Gate 4 and sneaked away with the car.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the arrest in a statement said the suspect, Ya’u Inuwa, a permanent driver in the Government House, confessed to having conspired with two other individuals to steal the vehicle.
“The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen white Toyota Hilux vehicle attached to the Governor’s Advance Teams, which was reported missing at the Kano State Government House on November 11, 2025,” the statement read.
“The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, had ordered the ceiling up of all entry and exit points of the State and directed that the vehicle be recovered and those involved be arrested.
“Following sustained follow up coupled with intelligence-led investigations, one Ya’u Inuwa, a 50-year-old male driver in the Government House, was arrested in connection with the theft. The vehicle was recovered in Unguwa Uku, Yan Awaki Quarters, Kano, and is currently in police custody.
“The suspect confessed to having conspired with two other individuals, who are currently at large.
“The Police Command appreciates the prompt report made by the officials of Kano State Government House, and assures the public of its commitment to investigating and bringing perpetrators to justice.
“Further developments will be communicated as the investigation unfolds.”
