Police reject GH¢150,000 bribe from suspected ‘wee’ dealer

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has apprehended a suspect for the unlawful possession of 713 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs following an operation at Asanso Bekwai in the Ashanti Region.

The police, in a post on its Facebook page, indicated that the suspect, identified as Atampugri Akanyani, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested on January 26, 2026, when a police team on snap check duty intercepted a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus with registration number AC 718-25 at the Asanso checkpoint.

A search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of nine nylon sacks containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs concealed in the bus.

According to the law enforcement agency, the sacks were opened, revealing a total of seven hundred and thirteen compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs.

“During the arrest, the suspect allegedly attempted to bribe the officers with an amount of GH¢150,000.00, which was declined.

“The suspect is currently in police custody assisting investigations, as efforts continue to trace the source of the suspected narcotic drugs and identify other persons connected to the offence,” the statement added.
