Controversial Nigerian street-hop singer Portable has once again stirred public debate after openly declaring support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a video currently circulating across social media platforms, the Zazu crooner appealed to Nigerians to rally behind Tinubu, linking the president’s continued leadership to the preservation of peace and stability in the country. His remarks, delivered in his usual outspoken style, have since generated mixed reactions among fans and political observers.
Speaking directly to citizens, Portable framed his support as a call for national unity, warning against potential unrest if leadership changes hands. According to him, backing Tinubu is essential for maintaining order.
“Nigeria my country, we need peace, we want peace. If you do not want war in Nigeria, vote Tinubu,” he said in the video. He went further to draw comparisons with global conflicts, cautioning Nigerians against situations that could mirror international tensions.
The singer also introduced an ethnic dimension to his comments, suggesting that power should remain within the Yoruba bloc for another term. His statement emphasized what he described as a turn-based expectation in leadership, adding a controversial layer to the political conversation.
“It is Yoruba turn for second term,” he said, warning that those who fail to align with this stance could face consequences.
Portable’s comments did not stop there. He revealed that he has already begun participating in grassroots mobilisation efforts in support of the president’s re-election ambition. According to him, he recently received campaign materials, hinting at deeper involvement in political advocacy.
“I just collected clothes, I haven’t collected money. If I collect money, I will share rice, noodles, and palm oil,” he stated, suggesting plans to engage directly with communities.
The artist also issued a stern warning to individuals who, in his view, have benefited from Tinubu’s administration but may choose not to support him at the polls. His remarks, laced with traditional references, have drawn criticism for their intensity.
“If you have benefitted from Tinubu, and you refuse to vote Tinubu…” he said, trailing into a warning that many online users have since described as extreme.
Addressing widespread concerns about Nigeria’s economic situation, particularly the rising cost of fuel, Portable appeared unfazed. Instead, he dismissed the complaints, maintaining that his personal loyalty to the president remains unchanged regardless of prevailing hardships.
“They said petrol is expensive. Even if petrol is N1m, let God keep providing for me and my fans,” he said, adding that he stands firmly behind the leader he believes in.
He also pushed back against critics questioning his stance, making it clear that his political alignment is intentional. According to Portable, he chooses to associate with what he considers “winning sides,” a comment that has sparked further debate about celebrity influence in politics.
The singer concluded his message by urging his fan base to follow his lead and support Tinubu, reinforcing his position as one of the more vocal entertainers backing the president ahead of the next election cycle.
Portable’s political statements are not entirely new, as he has previously made headlines for his outspoken views on national issues. However, this latest endorsement has amplified conversations around the role of entertainers in shaping political narratives, especially in a country where celebrity influence carries significant weight.
While some supporters have praised him for speaking boldly, others have criticised his remarks as divisive and insensitive to the current economic realities facing many Nigerians.
As the 2027 elections gradually come into focus, voices like Portable’s highlight the growing intersection between entertainment and politics—an evolving space where influence, loyalty, and public opinion continue to collide.
