According to our reporter, the Presidency has explained that President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other service chiefs was a normal leadership reshuffle aimed at strengthening national security.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily Post on Friday, Presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare said the move was not linked to any crisis or internal conflict within the military. “This is routine — meant to boost security across the nation. The Commander-in-Chief has the authority to make such changes whenever necessary,” Dare said.
According to our reporter, the new appointments saw Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede replacing General Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, while Major General W. Shaibu was appointed Chief of Army Staff. Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke is now the Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas takes charge as Chief of Naval Staff. Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye retained his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
The Presidency also dismissed rumors of a coup plot, describing them as baseless. Officials maintained that Nigeria’s democracy remains stable and that Tinubu’s decision was purely administrative.
Observers believe the reshuffle reflects the president’s determination to enhance coordination and discipline within the armed forces while strengthening the country’s overall security framework.
