The Federal Government has officially begun paying a ₦22,500 monthly stipend to students enrolled in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, sparking mixed reactions across social media after beneficiaries shared proof of payment.
The initiative, introduced in May 2025 under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, is designed to strengthen technical skills development and improve employment opportunities for Nigerian youths. According to the Presidency, the stipend aims to ease the financial burden on trainees as they undergo intensive practical training.
Evidence of the payments surfaced on December 2, 2025, when students posted bank alerts online. Presidential aide Dada Olusegun also highlighted the development on his official X handle, further confirming the rollout of the programme.
The TVET scheme provides free tuition and hands-on training in fields such as welding, electrical installation, plumbing, carpentry, and other vocational trades. From an initial 1.3 million applicants, more than 250,000 students were selected for courses lasting six to twelve months. The stipends are partly funded through a 5% allocation from TETFUND and complement the NELFUND support system for higher-institution students.
The announcement has generated widespread reactions online.
