Controversial Nigerian Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has reacted to the viral video showing a heated confrontation between the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and Naval Officer Ahmad Yerima, an incident that has sparked nationwide debate and online outrage.
The clash, which gained traction after social activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), weighed in, has now attracted even more attention following Kuti’s blunt reaction. VDM had earlier faulted Wike’s behavior, accusing him of attempting to encroach on land designated for his NGO project.
In his reaction, Seun Kuti took a swipe at both Yerima and his close friend VDM, insisting that the officer’s behavior was not an act of bravery. According to the outspoken singer, true courage would have been refusing to guard “illegal land” and instead standing firmly by the Nigerian Constitution.
“Real bravery would have been disobeying orders to protect illegal property. True defiance is telling Wike, ‘Your father is a fool,’” Kuti said boldly.
Kuti further described the conduct of both Wike and Yerima as “shameful”, asserting that their actions embarrassed Nigeria. He labeled them “cowards”, emphasizing that if military officers were truly courageous, banditry and insecurity wouldn’t continue to plague the nation.
The Afrobeat star also argued that Nigeria’s military weaknesses became evident only when they were deployed against insurgents, exposing the system’s lack of equipment, armored vehicles, and proper weapons.
