Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reject the recent decision to rename the Abuja International Conference Centre after him.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, announced the renaming of the facility as the “Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre” during its inauguration.
Wike also disclosed that other halls within the complex have been renamed after key government figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola Kekere-Ekun.
Reacting via his official Facebook page, Senator Sani argued that the facility, originally built under former Head of State Ibrahim Babangida (IBB), should retain its historical name.
He wrote: “The International Conference Centre Abuja was built by IBB. The President should reject renaming the place with his name.”
The development has sparked mixed reactions across social media, with many Nigerians debating the appropriateness of renaming national landmarks after sitting leaders.
