The fact that Muslims are killed does not deny the targeted killings and attacks of Christians– Para-Mallam

Rev. Gideon Para-Mallam, President of the Gideon Fumi Peace Foundation, has urged Nigerians to acknowledge the targeted attacks on Christian communities, even as Muslims also suffer from insecurity. Speaking in a recent interview on Channels TV, he cautioned against narratives that oversimplify or generalize the violence affecting the country.

“We are not saying that Muslims are not being killed,” Rev. Para-Mallam said, acknowledging that Nigerians of all faiths face threats. However, he stressed, “The fact that Muslims are killed does not deny the targeted killings and attacks of Christians.” He explained that these assaults often follow a deliberate pattern aimed at displacing Christian communities and weakening their presence in certain areas.

The Reverend warned that labeling all attacks merely as “banditry” or “terrorism” obscures the underlying religious dimensions and hampers the government’s ability to respond effectively. He emphasized that recognizing these distinctions is essential for justice and accountability, not divisiveness.

Rev. Para-Mallam called on government agencies, security institutions, and media outlets to adopt a nuanced approach in reporting and addressing violent incidents. He also encouraged faith leaders nationwide to promote dialogue, empathy, and collaborative advocacy to support communities affected by violence.

He concluded by urging strengthened intelligence gathering and equal protection for all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity, noting that selective enforcement or silence only deepens mistrust and undermines national security.
