Political activist Austin Okai has raised alarm over alleged internal sabotage within Nigeria’s security institutions, warning that the fight against terrorism is being undermined from within.
In an interview on TV Platinum, Okai stated bluntly, “There are some people who are working for bandits, ISWAP, and Boko Haram within the security agencies.” He explained that this internal threat is one of the most dangerous obstacles to achieving peace, noting that no amount of military resources can succeed if enemies are embedded in the system.
Okai highlighted that recent patterns of attacks, kidnappings, and intelligence leaks suggest that certain personnel may be collaborating with or indirectly enabling insurgent groups. He pointed out that the precision with which terrorists evade military operations raises serious questions about internal breaches.
Calling for urgent reforms, Okai advocated for thorough vetting, regular audits of security personnel, and stricter monitoring of officers handling sensitive intelligence. He stressed that without addressing internal betrayal, public confidence in Nigeria’s security forces will continue to erode, leaving citizens vulnerable and demoralized.
The activist also urged political leaders to confront the issue with transparency and accountability, describing the removal of collaborators as both a military necessity and a moral imperative essential for restoring trust and national stability.
