U.S. President Donald Trump has criticised the Nigerian government for what he describes as ongoing attacks on Christian communities, warning that thousands of lives are at risk.
In a report by the Nigerian Tribune on Saturday, 22 November 2025, Trump expressed concern over persistent violence targeting Christians across the country. He claimed that the government’s response has been inadequate, despite international support, allowing armed groups to act freely.
Trump said the crisis had largely been ignored internationally until he personally raised the issue two weeks ago. “The government has done nothing. They are very ineffective. They are killing Christians at will. And you know, until I got involved in it two weeks ago, nobody even talked about it,” he stated.
He emphasised that the attacks pose broader humanitarian and regional stability risks and urged Nigerian authorities to take immediate action to protect vulnerable populations. Trump called for stronger accountability and intervention to prevent further loss of life and to restore security for affected communities.
