Following the abrupt resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, to assume the role of Acting National Chairman immediately.
In a swift move to address the leadership vacuum, President Tinubu also instructed Dalori to convene an urgent meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to formalize the transition and chart a path forward.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued Friday night by APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who disclosed that Ganduje resigned to attend to “urgent and important personal matters.”
“In his letter of resignation addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Dr. Ganduje expressed his gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the opportunity to serve the party at the highest level,” the statement read.
Ganduje assumed the role of APC National Chairman in August 2023 following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu. His tenure was marked by efforts to strengthen party unity, uphold internal democracy, and improve the APC’s electoral competitiveness.
With Dalori now at the helm in an acting capacity, the party is expected to organize a special convention in the coming weeks to elect a new chairman amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
