Tottenham Hotspur have announced Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager on a long-term contract, pending the approval of his work permit.
The Italian tactician becomes the latest big-name coach to take over at the North London club and is widely respected for his entertaining, possession-based style of football.
Speaking after the announcement, Roberto De Zerbi said he was thrilled to join Tottenham which he described as one of the world’s biggest football clubs.
“I am delighted to be joining this fantastic football club, which is one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world,” he said.
“In all my discussions with the Club’s leadership, their ambition for the future has been clear – to build a team capable of reaching great achievements, and to do that playing a style of football that excites and inspires our supporters.
“I am here because I believe in that ambition and have signed a long-term contract to give everything to deliver it.”
The 46-year-old also said his immediate focus is on helping Tottenham improve their position in the Premier League standings before the end of the season.
“Our short-term priority is to climb the Premier League table, which will be the complete focus until the final whistle of the last game of the season,” he stated.
“I’m looking forward to getting out on the training pitch and working with these players to achieve that.”
Tottenham Sporting Director Johan Lange described De Zerbi as the club’s top choice, praising his tactical intelligence, creativity, and experience at the highest level.
“Roberto was our number one target for the summer and we are very pleased to be able to bring him in now,” Lange said.
“He is one of the most creative and forward-thinking coaches in world football, and brings with him a wealth of experience at the highest level, including in the Premier League.”
Roberto De Zerbi first gained major attention in Italy during his time at Sassuolo, where his attacking style earned him praise across Europe.
He later won the Ukrainian Super Cup with Shakhtar Donetsk before moving to Brighton, where he led the club to their highest-ever Premier League finish and first qualification for European competition.
Most recently, he guided Marseille to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 season, securing Champions League football for the French side.
He is expected to resume work immediately as Tottenham continue preparations for the rest of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
