Nigeria In a shocking case of domestic violence, the Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 71-year-old man, Jeriel Clifford Peter, for allegedly murdering his 67-year-old wife, Miltha Jeriel, following a violent altercation at a beer parlour in Demsa Local Government Area.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on November 6, 2025, after a heated quarrel between the couple escalated into a deadly confrontation.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect, who was allegedly intoxicated, attacked his wife with both a knife and an axe, inflicting multiple fatal injuries in a fit of rage.
Police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Demsa Division swiftly responded to a distress call and arrived at the scene. The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was sadly confirmed dead on arrival. Her remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that the murder weapons — a knife and an axe — have been recovered as evidence.
Reacting to the gruesome killing, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, strongly condemned the act, describing it as “unfortunate and barbaric.” He has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yola, to take over the case for a discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.
“This killing is unfortunate and barbaric,” CP Morris said. “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served. Domestic violence in any form will not be tolerated in Adamawa State.”
The Police Commissioner further warned residents against domestic violence, advising couples to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes and reach out for help before conflicts escalate into tragedy.
