According to our report, Freeman has cautioned that U.S. military intervention in Nigeria could trigger regional instability, drawing parallels to past actions in Northern Africa. Speaking to Trust TV, he warned that foreign military involvement might destabilize Nigeria further and inadvertently strengthen extremist groups across West Africa.
Freeman, a frequent visitor to Nigeria since 1994, stressed that addressing the root causes of insecurity—such as poverty and underdevelopment—is more effective than armed intervention. He highlighted initiatives like the Transaqua Project and regional economic programs as examples of sustainable solutions.
“Military action opens the door to disasters. Trump risks repeating the mistakes of Obama, whose overthrow of Gaddafi in 2011 fueled Boko Haram and AQIM. While unlikely, such intervention could have serious unintended consequences,” Freeman said, urging focus on economic and developmental measures rather than conflict-driven solutions.
