South African music star Tyla has once again cemented her place at the top of the global Afrobeats movement, earning the title of the No. 1 Afrobeats artist in the United States for 2025, according to Billboard.
This major recognition marks a historic moment, as she becomes the first artist ever to secure the No. 1 spot in consecutive years, following her dominance in the 2024 year-end chart.
Billboard’s newly released 2025 year-end rankings highlight Tyla’s sweeping influence on the American Afrobeats landscape, showcasing the remarkable consistency she demonstrated throughout the year. The singer made 11 chart appearances, a feat that underscores her rising impact within African and global music conversations.
Among her standout moments in 2025 was her collaboration with Nigerian superstar Wizkid on the track Dynamite. The song resonated strongly with U.S. listeners, soaring to No. 2 on the weekly U.S. Afrobeats chart. Tyla also found notable success with her solo record Mr. Media, which secured a spot in the top 10 after peaking at No. 8, further showcasing her versatility and ability to deliver hits across different styles.
Her success wasn’t limited to the artists’ chart alone. Tyla’s influence stretched into the songs category, where her energetic 2025 release Shake It to the Max (Fly) earned the prestigious honor of being named the No. 1 U.S. Afrobeats song of the year. Meanwhile, her breakout global hit Water—originally released in 2023—continued to maintain its popularity and cultural relevance, finishing at No. 2 on the 2025 year-end song rankings. The longevity of Water demonstrates the staying power of Tyla’s sound and its resonance with audiences worldwide.
Billboard emphasized the significance of her accomplishments in its analysis, writing, “Tyla takes first place on the 2025 U.S. Afrobeats Artists year-end chart, defending her title from 2024 and becoming the first act to repeat the feat.” The statement highlights the increasing influence of African artists in mainstream music, as well as Tyla’s unique position at the forefront of the genre’s expansion.
While Tyla led the list, Nigerian artists dominated the rest of the top ten, showcasing the country’s strong presence within Afrobeats globally. Wizkid secured the No. 2 position, followed by other major Nigerian acts such as Rema, Burna Boy, Davido, BNXN, Asake, Shallipopi, and Seyi Vibez. Ghanaian singer Moliy rounded up the list, reinforcing the extensive pan-African reach of Afrobeats across different regions of the continent.
This recognition comes on the heels of another milestone celebrated by Billboard earlier in the year, which honored Nigerian legend 2Baba for his timeless classic African Queen. Released in 2004, the song was named the greatest Afrobeats song of all time, with Billboard describing it as “a love letter to a generation of women from the continent,” marking its everlasting impact and influence on contemporary African music.
With back-to-back triumphs in the U.S. market, Tyla continues to break boundaries, positioning herself as one of the most influential voices in African music today and setting a new benchmark for future Afrobeats artists.
