According to a NewsVista report, tension is growing in Rivers State as residents urge suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara to publicly disclose the details of the peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu. The deal, meant to resolve the long-running political crisis in the state, remains shrouded in secrecy—sparking widespread speculation and concern.
The high-level agreement involved Fubara, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, following a heated power struggle that disrupted governance for nearly two years and led to a state of emergency in March 2025.
Community leaders and civil society groups argue that the people deserve full transparency. Many fear the peace deal may include controversial conditions such as limiting Fubara to one term, dropping court cases, and reinstating pro-Wike lawmakers. Without official clarification, skepticism continues to grow.
While Fubara has urged his supporters to accept the deal in the name of peace and development, critics—including the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria—have called for legal redress before any reconciliation. Others, like politician Udengs Eradiri, praised Fubara’s willingness to compromise for the sake of unity.
For now, Rivers people are asking one thing: What exactly was agreed—and at what cost?
