When My Brother Had A Fight With His Girlfriend And He Slapped Her,My Father Had Him Arrested—Branch

Nollywood actor Femi Branch has shared a personal story about how his late father shaped his lifelong stance against domestic violence. The revelation came during a TVC Entertainment interview on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Branch, who is preparing to mark the one-year memorial of his father’s passing on November 15, explained that abusive behaviour in relationships often stems from childhood experiences. “Whenever I learn of men acting abusively in their relationships, striking their girlfriends or wives, that’s their background. That’s what they observed while growing up,” he said.

He credited his father with instilling in him a strict principle: never to raise a hand against a woman. “Something I learned from my dad, and which I mention whenever possible, is that I could never lift my hand to strike a woman. And that came from my dad,” Branch recalled. He added, “He used to tell us, since you’ve never witnessed me lifting my hand to strike your mother, there’s no excuse. From where would you claim you picked it up, to strike a woman?”

Branch recounted a specific family incident involving his younger brother. During a disagreement with his girlfriend, his brother reportedly slapped her. Their father ensured there were consequences. “She contacted the police. My dad had him detained. They initially said they should beat him, and they did,” Branch explained. He noted that even high-level family connections were not enough to prevent justice, emphasizing that his father’s firm action left a lasting impression. “That event, I am 55 years old. I am still discussing it,” he said.
