Nigerian singer and songwriter Seyi Shay has finally revealed the reason behind her long absence from the entertainment scene, explaining that her four-year break was a conscious decision to rediscover herself, focus on healing, and strengthen her spiritual foundation.

In a revealing conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the award-winning artiste spoke openly about what she described as a transformative season of isolation — one that reshaped her perspective on life, fame, and relationships. The discussion, which surfaced online on Thursday, offered her first major public reflection in years and provided answers to questions fans had long asked about her disappearance from the limelight.

According to Seyi Shay, the decision to step away from the music industry was neither sudden nor accidental. It was an intentional retreat to find balance and peace amid the pressures that came with success and public life.

“I have done so much work over these past four years,” she said. “The transformation of my mind started before I had my child. I started a journey of isolation.”

The singer went on to explain that solitude became a key part of her personal growth process. Though many people view isolation negatively, she said the quiet years helped her gain new insight and clarity that she could never have found while living constantly in the public eye.

“There is something really good about isolation, but I know some people say it is not good,” she said. “One thing for me is that I was blessed with hindsight, and I could just reflect. I was also blessed with insight, which in turn gave me foresight. I think that is the biggest gift beside my daughter that God has given me these few years that I have been away.”

The singer, known for hits such as Right Now, Yolo Yolo, and Gimme Love, said the break helped her reconnect with her spirituality and inner peace. The changes she experienced, she explained, also influenced the way she interacts with people — particularly men.

“My spirituality has also transformed, and I am vibrating on such a different level now that I actually feel very comfortable with men,” she shared. “I love all the men. It is a man’s world.”

Beyond her personal transformation, Seyi Shay also used the interview to clear the air on speculations surrounding her relationship status and the father of her daughter. While she described him as a supportive partner and a great friend, she confirmed that they are not married — a choice she attributed to what she termed “technical reasons.”

“It’s a technical issue, you understand? But he’s great, he’s cool, he’s around,” she said. “He’s Nigerian, he’s in the UK at the moment, and he’s also in the music industry on the corporate side of things. We just work together, raising our child, and we are great friends.”

Seyi Shay’s remarks signal a renewed sense of maturity and purpose. Her reflections reveal a woman who has taken time to confront her emotions, embrace motherhood, and strengthen her spiritual connection. After years of silence, she appears to be returning to the industry with more clarity, inner calm, and a deeper understanding of herself.

Her four-year retreat, she emphasized, was less about escaping fame and more about rediscovering meaning beyond it. For an artiste once at the peak of Nigerian pop culture, the period away from the noise allowed her to realign her priorities and redefine success on her own terms.

As Seyi Shay slowly steps back into public view, her story stands as a reminder of the importance of self-awareness and rest in an industry that rarely slows down. Her next chapter, shaped by reflection and motherhood, may well mark the beginning of a more grounded and spiritually attuned era in her career.
