Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor (rtd), has addressed the controversy surrounding a naval officer involved in a confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, stressing the importance of military discipline and accountability. Speaking during a media briefing covered by AIT News, Irabor warned that the officer could face strict consequences if he continues to defy regulations.
“The officer in question, if you see him wearing mufti tomorrow, you will not see him,” Irabor stated, implying that any attempt to evade uniformed duties or circumvent disciplinary procedures would be met with enforcement. He emphasized that the Nigerian Armed Forces uphold a professional code of conduct and that no individual is above the law, regardless of rank or position.
The general’s comments come amid widespread attention to the clash between Wike and the naval officer, which has ignited debates over civil-military interactions, authority, and the limits of power. Observers note that Irabor’s statement reflects the military’s commitment to maintaining discipline, even in situations involving high-profile figures.
