Years ago, they issued quick notice to all Christians in north that they should move out–Para-Mallam

Rev. Gideon Para-Mallam, President of the Gideon Fumi Peace Foundation, has recounted a troubling directive issued to Christian communities in northern Nigeria a few years ago, highlighting ongoing religiously motivated intimidation in the region.

“A couple of years ago, they issued a quick notice to all Christians in the north that they should move out of the north,” Rev. Para-Mallam stated in a recent interview on Channels TV. He emphasized that these notices were not merely symbolic but carried real consequences, forcing families to abandon homes where they had lived for generations.

The clergyman explained that such directives form part of a broader pattern of systematic intimidation targeting Christian communities, creating a climate of fear and dominance by extremist groups. He noted that affected families faced lasting social and economic impacts, including disruptions to livelihoods, education, and community cohesion.

Rev. Para-Mallam stressed that the Christian communities targeted were law-abiding citizens whose only “offense” was their faith. He warned that ignoring such incidents risks normalizing the persecution of minorities and emboldening perpetrators.

He called on the government to take proactive measures to protect citizens and prevent further displacements. The Reverend also urged national and international stakeholders to monitor these developments, advocate for minority rights, and promote accountability to ensure long-term solutions.
