Breaking: Trouble for Adeleke? Two Osun Senators Dump PDP, Endorse Tinubu for 2027

By NewsVista Politics Desk

The political atmosphere in Osun State has taken a dramatic turn as two out of the state’s three sitting senators have officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the ruling party in the state led by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) submitted separate resignation letters, citing the PDP’s “irreconcilable internal crisis and endless legal wranglings” following the 2023 general elections.

This comes barely two months after both lawmakers—and their colleague from Osun West, Senator Kamarudeen Lere Oyewumi—openly endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term under the Osun State Senators’ Caucus of the PDP.

Fadahunsi, once seen as a strong political ally of Governor Adeleke, said he could no longer remain in a party that is “consistently divided and distracted.” Meanwhile, Fadeyi echoed similar sentiments, blaming “persistent internal instability” for his exit.

Their sudden defection has intensified speculation that Governor Adeleke himself might be eyeing a shift to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to boost his chances for re-election in 2026.

On May 20, the three senators shocked the PDP by declaring President Tinubu their “sole and legitimate presidential candidate” for the 2027 election, praising his infrastructure projects, economic recovery efforts, and improved national security.

“We’re proud to represent constituencies that now stand firmly behind President Tinubu’s visionary leadership,” their joint statement read.

Insiders say the defections could mark the beginning of a deeper political realignment in Osun, with ripple effects ahead of both the 2026 governorship and 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, Adeleke has yet to publicly react to the senators’ defection or the growing rumour of his potential move to the APC.
