Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, former Chief of Army Staff, has raised concerns over a recent confrontation in Abuja between Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and a Nigerian Navy officer, warning that such incidents could pose a risk to national security.
The clash reportedly occurred at Plot 1946 in Abuja’s Gaduwa District, amid a dispute over land linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff. Wike had visited the site with representatives of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to address what he described as an illegal building project.
A viral video shows Wike questioning the officer’s authority to develop the property without government approval, while the officer defended the military’s role in safeguarding the land. Buratai criticized Wike’s public confrontation, describing it as reckless and damaging to the chain of command and the integrity of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
“The confrontation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and a Nigerian Navy officer in Abuja represents a clear and present danger to national security. It is not political theatre, it is a reckless endangerment of national order,” Buratai stated. He warned that such actions could lower morale among military commanders and undermine operational effectiveness.
