Court Sentences Man To Death For Murder In Rivers State

According to our report, a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has sentenced Charles Baridolee to death by hanging for the 2024 murder of Gerald Tekena in Bodo community, Gokana LGA.

The court found that Baridolee attacked Tekena with a machete following a quarrel over Tekena’s financial support to Baridolee’s family, resulting in multiple fatal injuries. Eyewitness testimonies, forensic evidence, and Baridolee’s confessional statement convinced the court of his guilt.

Justice Augusta Chukwu pronounced the death sentence, stressing that violence and revenge undermine societal order. Chief Prosecution Counsel, Ordu Precious, said the ruling restores hope for the victim’s family and serves as a deterrent, while Defence Counsel Angus Chukwuka plans to appeal, citing the gravity of the sentence.
