Diogo Jota: Mbappe, Dembele Pay Tribute to Liverpool Star After Goals at Club World Cup

According to a NewsVista reporter, France internationals Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele moved football fans around the world with emotional tributes to the late Portuguese star, Diogo Jota, during the ongoing 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, tragically lost their lives in a car accident and were laid to rest on Saturday, July 5. But the football community is making sure they’re not forgotten.

Mbappe, now with Real Madrid, scored a stunning late volley in their 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund. After finding the net in the 94th minute, he held up the number 20 — the shirt number worn by Jota — in a simple but powerful tribute.

Over in Atlanta, PSG winger Ousmane Dembele came off the bench to seal a 2-0 victory against Bayern Munich. After scoring deep into injury time, he mimicked Jota’s iconic video game celebration by sitting at the corner flag — a subtle gesture that sparked emotion among fans worldwide.

Despite being down to nine men, PSG stood strong, with Desire Doue opening the scoring and Hakimi assisting Dembele for the second.

The heartfelt celebrations went viral, with fans applauding the gesture:

“Dembele, you have my respect for this,” one user wrote.
“Jota was underrated but unforgettable.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool star Mohamed Salah also posted a heartfelt message mourning the loss of his former teammate and extending prayers to Jota’s wife, children, and family.
