Portugal football icon and national team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, has shared an emotional tribute to Diogo Jota, following the shocking death of the Liverpool star in a tragic car accident on Thursday morning.
Diogo Jota was travelling with his younger brother, Andre Silva, when their vehicle veered off the road in Zamora, Spain. Both men, aged 28 and 25 respectively, died at the scene.
Ronaldo, visibly shaken by the news, posted a heartfelt message on social media:
“Doesn’t make any sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you were married.”
He added:
“To your family, to your wife and children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world.
I know you will always be with them. R.I.P. Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you.”
Diogo Jota and Ronaldo had most recently shared the pitch representing Portugal in the UEFA Nations League, where they played a key role in the team’s success just last month.
The loss of both brothers has sent a wave of grief throughout the football world, as tributes continue to pour in for the beloved players.
