Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has released his final 28-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, trimming down his previously announced 54-man provisional list as Nigeria intensifies preparations for the continental tournament.

The announcement, made on Thursday, immediately triggered reactions from fans, especially as some players who were previously doubtful made the cut while others were dropped.

One of the biggest surprises is the inclusion of Stanley Nwabali, whose participation had been uncertain following reports of hand and ankle injuries.

Many believed the Chippa United goalkeeper would miss the tournament entirely, but Chelle listed him in the final squad, signalling confidence in his recovery.

He will compete for the number one spot alongside Francis Uzoho and Amas Obasogie, who also made the team.

Nigeria’s attack remains one of the most talked-about aspects of the squad, with Victor Osimhen leading the frontline.

The Galatasaray striker makes the list alongside Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, and Moses Simon. Chelle also recalled Paul Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers, who have both had periods of absence from the national team.

Sevilla’s dynamic duo, Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke, were also included, adding depth and options upfront as Nigeria aims for a strong showing.

In midfield, Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, and Wilfred Ndidi are once again trusted to provide stability and creativity for the team.

Raphael Onyedika, Lazarus-bound Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Pisa youngster Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, and Usman Muhammed were also selected. Rising talent Tochukwu Nnadi earned a place in the squad after impressive performances in Belgium.

Chelle’s defence features a blend of familiar names and emerging stars. Calvin Bassey leads the group, joined by Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyemaechi, Chidozie Awaziem, Zaidu Sanusi, Igoh Ogbu and Ryan Alebiosu.

The squad reflects Chelle’s intention to build a balanced team capable of competing physically and tactically at the tournament.

As the Super Eagles prepare to storm Morocco, expectations remain high. Fans believe the mixture of experienced internationals and promising young talents could give Nigeria a strong chance of challenging for the AFCON title.

With Osimhen in form, Lookman consistent, and the midfield showing renewed competition, optimism is rising ahead of the opening game.

The players listed for the tournament include Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United in South Africa, Amas Obasogie of Singida Blackstars in Tanzania, and Francis Uzoho of Omonia FC in Cyprus as goalkeepers.

The defenders are Calvin Bassey of Fulham, Semi Ajayi of Hull City, Bright Osayi-Samuel of Birmingham City, Bruno Onyemaechi of Olympiakos, Chidozie Awaziem of Nantes, Zaidu Sanusi of FC Porto, Igoh Ogbu of Slavia Prague, and Ryan Alebiosu of Blackburn Rovers.

The midfielders selected are Alex Iwobi of Fulham, Frank Onyeka of Brentford, Wilfred Ndidi of Besiktas, Raphael Onyedika of Club Brugge, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru of Lazio, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro of Pisa, Usman Muhammed of Ironi Tiberias, and Tochukwu Nnadi of Zulte Waregem.

The forwards include Ademola Lookman of Atalanta, Samuel Chukwueze of Fulham, Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray, Moses Simon of Paris FC, Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams of Sevilla, Paul Onuachu of Trabzonspor, Cyriel Dessers of Panathinaikos, and Salim Fago Lawal of NK Istra.
