Daniel Asuquo Officially Defects from Labour Party to APC in Cross River State

In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon. Daniel Asuquo, a former federal lawmaker who represented Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving the Labour Party (LP).

The defection was announced during a grand reception organized by the APC at its Calabar State Secretariat on Saturday.

Asuquo Commits to APC’s Vision for Cross River

Popularly known as Dansuki, Asuquo expressed confidence in Cross River State’s future under APC leadership. He praised Governor Bassey Otu for his “People’s First” administration, lauding his integrity, openness, and dedication to the people.

“Governor Otu’s leadership is people-oriented, and it has inspired me to align fully with the APC,” Asuquo said during his speech.

Obidient Movement ‘Collapsed’ into APC, Asuquo Claims

Asuquo also made a bold political claim, stating that the Obedient Movement, previously loyal to the Labour Party, has collapsed into the APC, boosting the ruling party’s electoral strength.

“With the Obedient movement and my allies from the PDP now with the APC, we are confident of delivering 500,000 votes for Governor Otu and President Bola Tinubu in 2027,” he asserted.

Politics is Service – Asuquo’s New Political Mission

Asuquo emphasized that his defection was driven by a renewed desire to serve the people of Cross River and contribute to the state’s economic growth.

“Politics is about service. I present myself for service—service to repay the people who have stood by me. With the APC’s support, we’ll turn this into electoral victory,” he added.

APC Welcomes Asuquo Following Due Process

APC State Chairman Alphonsus Eba officially welcomed Asuquo, commending his respect for the party’s internal procedures.

“You followed the process from your ward level up to the state. You’ve now become a full member of the APC, and we are proud to have you,” Eba said.

He also confirmed that Governor Bassey Otu, represented at the event by Deputy Governor Peter Odey, approved the reception and welcomed Asuquo into the fold.
