Fayose Urges New PDP Chairman Abdulrahman to Unite Party and Restore Stability

According to a Daily Post report published on Saturday, November 1, 2025, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has congratulated the newly appointed acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, while urging him to make unity and reconciliation his top priorities.

Fayose, in a statement released to journalists in Ekiti, said the PDP is at a critical crossroads and needs focused leadership to restore peace, rebuild trust, and reposition the party as a credible opposition.

Abdulrahman’s emergence follows the suspension of Umar Damagum by the faction led by Senator Sam Anyanwu, amid deepening internal crises within the PDP. His appointment also comes on the heels of the Federal High Court order that halted the party’s planned national convention in Ibadan, leading to the temporary suspension of several key officials, including Anyanwu himself.

Fayose described Abdulrahman’s appointment as a new beginning and a chance for the PDP to heal from internal divisions that have weakened its political strength nationwide.

“I congratulate the new acting chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, and urge him to bring the party together and restore the confidence of its members,” Fayose said.

He further stressed that this was the best time for the PDP to redefine its direction and rebuild from within if it hopes to regain relevance ahead of future elections.

The former governor also called on the new leadership to address what he described as “injustices and irregularities” in certain state chapters, including Ekiti State, emphasizing the need to uphold the party’s constitution and respect judicial decisions.

Fayose concluded by reminding PDP leaders that “a divided house cannot stand”, urging them to put aside personal interests and focus on the collective goal of strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
