GES debunks ‘secret’ recruitment and sale of appointment letter allegations

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has vehemently refuted claims that it is secretly recruiting teachers and selling appointments for as much as GHS25,000.

The Service in a statement issued on Friday, December 12, and signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, said its attention had been drawn to a viral video, and reports aired on some traditional media platforms alleging an ongoing ‘secret’ recruitment exercise within the Service and the payment of money by individuals to secure teaching appointments.

Management of the Service described the claims as false, stressing that they do not reflect the facts.

The statement added that , the confusion may have arisen following the extension of financial clearance in October 2025 to allow for the onboarding of 2024 applicants whose earlier clearance had expired.

GES further explained that the resumption of the onboarding process led to the issuance of new appointment letters in some cases.

“For instance, applicants who had earlier been issued with fake appointment letters were given new genuine letters since they could not be onboarded with the fake ones,” the statement said, adding that the new letters were issued free of charge.

GES has therefore urged members of the public who have been asked to pay money or who have evidence of such demands to report the matter to the security agencies.

The Service further assured that its recruitment procedures remain unchanged, noting that when financial clearance is obtained for any main recruitment exercise, an official announcement will be made to invite all qualified candidates to apply.

The Service further stressed that its recruitment process is open, transparent, and free of charge.
