HeFRA shuts down Tamale Technical University Hospital over safety violations

The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has ordered the immediate closure of the Tamale Technical University Hospital over serious safety and infection prevention concerns.

In a statement released on Monday, November 10, HeFRA said intelligence reports, backed by video and photographic evidence, revealed that healthcare services at the facility were being provided under unsafe and unhygienic conditions.

A follow-up inspection by the Agency’s Compliance and Enforcement Directorate on Monday, November 3, 2025, confirmed the reports and further found that the hospital had been operating with an expired license, in violation of the Health Institutions and Facilities Act, 2011 (Act 829).

HeFRA has directed that the hospital remain closed from Friday, November 7, 2025, until all identified safety lapses and infection control issues are rectified.

The facility has also been fined GHS35,000 and instructed to regularize its licensing status before resuming operations.
