Former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo has criticized the recent confrontation in Abuja between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and a naval officer over a disputed land. The incident occurred when a senior naval officer prevented Wike and his team from accessing a property allegedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff.
Speaking in a video shared on Facebook, Dokubo clarified that he was not defending Wike personally but was advocating for the rule of law. He argued that Wike, as Minister and chief security officer of the FCT, had the legal authority to inspect the land and halt any illegal construction. Blocking such lawful duties, he said, was unacceptable and warranted strict disciplinary action, including court-martial.
Dokubo emphasized that no one is above the constitution. “I might not like Wike, our relationships have witnessed ups and downs, but in any sane society that fellow ought to have been court-martialled. It can’t happen anywhere outside Nigeria,” he stated, stressing that the officer should have respected legal procedures rather than escalating tension.
The former militant leader’s comments highlight ongoing concerns about civil-military interactions and adherence to the law in Nigeria’s capital.
