Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has opened up about his heartbreak following the tragic death of his teammate, Diogo Jota, revealing that he feels “frightened” to return to the club after the summer break.
Salah shared his grief in an emotional tribute on social media, after Jota and his younger brother, Andre Silva, died in a fatal car crash on Thursday. Reports revealed the car burst into flames while they were travelling to the UK, killing both siblings instantly.
“I am truly lost for words,” Salah wrote.
“Until yesterday, I never thought there would be something that would frighten me of going back to Liverpool after the break.
“Team mates come and go but not like this. It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back.
“My thoughts are with his wife, his children, and of course his parents who suddenly lost their children. Those close to Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get. They will never be forgotten.”
Jota and Salah had formed a strong partnership since Jota’s arrival from Wolves in 2020. Together, they helped Liverpool secure the Premier League title, the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, and reach the 2022 UEFA Champions League final.
Salah’s tribute reflects the emotional weight the tragedy has placed on the Liverpool squad and fans, as the club mourns the loss of one of its brightest stars.
