According to our report, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has sent a bold message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that Kanu’s trial is unjust and politically driven.
Speaking in an interview on Symfoni TV, Ejimakor said the recent protest in Abuja was never against the judiciary but against the executive arm of government responsible for Kanu’s prosecution. “We told President Tinubu, the man you have before the court on trial did nothing wrong,” he stated.
He explained that the judiciary doesn’t initiate trials, adding that the continued detention of Kanu is an abuse of executive power. Ejimakor also recounted his traumatic arrest during the peaceful demonstration, saying he was detained at the notorious SARS facility before being transferred to Kuje Prison.
The lawyer maintained that Kanu’s right to self-determination is protected under both Nigerian and international law, urging Tinubu to use the powers of the Attorney General to discontinue the case.
Ejimakor concluded that freeing Kanu would heal national divisions and prove that Nigeria’s democracy still respects justice and human rights.
