Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has called on Christians to actively pursue marriage and childbearing, warning that hesitation could weaken both families and the church.
In a recent sermon streamed on YouTube, Pastor Kumuyi cited Jeremiah 29:6, encouraging believers to “take wives and beget children, sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands that they may bear.” He stressed that obeying God’s command for family growth is essential to strengthening the Christian community.
The cleric expressed concern that fear, cultural pressures, and strict church regulations are preventing some Christians from marrying and starting families. “The man, the husband, the father, is always careful. The child turns 26, 27, 32… and when someone asks for the hand of his daughter, he is always looking at tribe, background, or resources and keeps saying no,” he said.
Kumuyi also highlighted a contrast with other religious groups, noting that while some are marrying multiple wives and expanding their families, certain Christian denominations limit marriage and childbearing. “They are not walking by faith. What will happen is the church will die out when the older ones are gone,” he warned.
He encouraged parents and families to act in faith, release their sons and daughters for marriage, and trust God for childbearing.
