Visitors planning a trip to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park later this month will need to make a small adjustment to their plans.
Management of the historic site has announced that the park will be closed to the public for one day on Saturday, December 27, 2025, to allow for internal operational activities.
The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is one of Ghana’s most treasured landmarks.
Opened in 1991 and refurbished before its grand reopening in 2023, the park attracts thousands of visitors each year who come to reflect on the life and legacy of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President and a leading voice in Africa’s liberation struggle.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Acting Executive Director Dr. Collins R. Nunyonameh explained that the temporary closure is necessary to support behind-the-scenes work that helps maintain the quality of the site and the experience offered to guests.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause. Your understanding and cooperation are deeply appreciated as we continue to uphold the standards and service experience that the Park is known for,” he said.
Tour operators, local patrons and international tourists are being encouraged to take note of the closure and plan their visits accordingly to avoid disappointment.
Management says the park will reopen the following day, Sunday, December 28, 2025.
Once reopened, visitors will again be able to explore the mausoleum, museum galleries and the Reflection Pools that make the park both a place of learning and quiet reflection.
Periodic closures, management noted, are part of caring for a national heritage site so it remains meaningful for generations to come.
