According to a NewsVista reporter, Nigerian football star Mfon Udoh is lucky to be alive after a ghastly car accident on Thursday, July 3, in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom State.
The 33-year-old former Super Eagles forward was rescued by friends who were with him at the scene. Udoh, who is currently back in Nigeria on holiday after wrapping up the 2024/25 season in Bangladesh, shared footage of his wrecked car on social media with the chilling caption: “The devil came late.”
The near-death experience occurred on the same day the football world was mourning the tragic death of Liverpool’s Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva in a separate crash.
Fans and NPFL supporters have flooded social media with prayers and emotional messages, many calling Udoh a man of grace and kindness. One fan recalled how the striker used to surprise restaurant staff with cash and even paid for strangers’ meals.
Mfon Udoh, who once set the NPFL record for most goals in a single season, has played for clubs across Nigeria, the US, and Bangladesh. He remains one of the most respected names in Nigerian football.
While the day brought tragic news globally, fans are grateful that Udoh’s story ended in survival — not sorrow.
