Peter Obi Reacts as Wike Clashes with Soldiers Over Property in Abuja

Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to the viral video showing Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, in a heated confrontation with Nigerian military personnel in Abuja. The incident reportedly occurred at Plot 1946, Gaduwa District, where soldiers allegedly prevented officials from performing duties on land linked to retired Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi described the altercation as “a needless and unfortunate reflection of Nigeria’s growing institutional disorder.” He said the scene was a national embarrassment that exposed deeper issues in governance, particularly the misuse of authority and the blurred boundary between civil and military operations.

Obi questioned why military personnel were involved in a civil matter and criticized the conduct of the Minister, urging leaders to act with restraint and decorum. He lamented the erosion of due process and the increasing disregard for institutional integrity, warning that such acts weaken public trust in governance.

“When officials operate above institutions and security agencies act outside their remit, governance is weakened,” Obi said. He called for discipline, respect for the rule of law, and stronger institutions that can stand above personal interests.

Obi concluded that leadership titles should come with humility and accountability, emphasizing that Nigeria’s progress depends on lawful conduct and respect for due process across all levels of authority.

Exclusive clips from the scene, plus analysis of what the confrontation means for civil-military relations, are available on Newshost Buzz.
