Super Eagles will qualify for 2026 World Cup despite allowance dispute- NFF president Gusau

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, remains optimistic that the Super Eagles will secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The team failed to secure automatic qualification during the group stage and must now navigate the challenging African playoffs to earn a spot at the Mundial.

This optimism comes despite a significant pre-match disruption where the players boycotted training earlier in the week over long-standing unpaid bonuses and allowances.

The Super Eagles are set to confront the Panthers of Gabon in the semi-final of the playoffs today, Thursday. The crucial encounter will be held at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex, Rabat, with kick-off scheduled for 5 PM Nigeria time.

Gusau stated that the Super Eagles possess the necessary quality to triumph in the mini-tournament, implicitly addressing the mental toll of the financial dispute.

“We believe in the players and their ability to make Nigeria proud, not only on Thursday, but throughout these playoffs. We have a team capable of earning a World Cup ticket,” Gusau told thenff.com.
