Renowned preacher, Pastor Abel Damina, has shared a painful account of violence and loss, speaking about the killing of his close friend and colleague, Reverend NorthCourt Andrew, during a period of unrest in Kaduna State. His remarks add to growing concerns about recurring attacks and insecurity faced by Christian communities across parts of Nigeria.
In a recent video cited by The Guardian, Pastor Damina expressed worry over efforts by some groups to downplay the reality of such attacks, which he described as deeply troubling. He recalled how, during a mission in Kaduna, violence broke out shortly after he concluded a Sunday service for a fellow minister.
According to him, the city descended into chaos as reports emerged that several churches had been set ablaze and residents were being targeted. Damina and his team were forced to remain in hiding for days, fearing for their safety as attackers reportedly moved from one location to another in search of victims.
Tragically, he said his friend Reverend Andrew was not as fortunate. “They caught him, hacked him to death, buried him there, and placed a cross over the grave,” Damina recounted with emotion. He added that it was the wooden cross later found on the site that revealed where the late cleric had been buried.
