President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the release of N2 billion to help rebuild homes destroyed by recent flooding in Mokwa, Niger State.
Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Mokwa on Tinubu’s behalf and arrived in the town at about 12:30 PM. He was welcomed by Niger State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Yahaya Abubakar, and other members of the State Executive Council.
The flood had caused significant damage, leaving many residents homeless and in need of urgent help. Tinubu’s approval aims to provide relief to affected families while helping them get back on their feet.
To make sure the intervention is quick and effective, Tinubu has directed the Ministers of Environment and State for Agriculture to temporarily relocate to Niger State. They will oversee flood control efforts under the ACReSAL project to prevent further damage.
Speaking during the visit, Shettima promised that the federal government would work closely with the Niger State government to address the needs of the victims.
He also praised the prompt response by state authorities and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), saying that their efforts had helped to reduce the impact of the flooding.
The community expressed gratitude for the federal government’s support, hoping that the aid would help them recover and rebuild their lives.
