Trump: It’s Irrational To Suggest Sharia Must Be Eliminated Before Nigeria Can Be Accepted —NSCIA

According to our report, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has dismissed foreign demands suggesting Sharia law must be eliminated for Nigeria’s international acceptance.

Speaking through Secretary-General Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the council emphasized that Nigeria’s Constitution recognizes three legal systems—Common Law, Customary Law, and Sharia Law—each applying only to its respective community. Sharia governs personal and religious matters for Muslims, Christian laws for Christians, and customary law for local traditions.

Oloyede argued that calls to abolish Sharia are unconstitutional and misunderstand Nigeria’s legal framework. He stressed that all systems respect individual rights, operate independently, and pose no threat to national unity.

The NSCIA reaffirmed that Sharia law protects Muslim rights and cultural identity, emphasizing that its existence is both constitutional and fair, and that international acceptance should not hinge on its removal.
