Russia said on Monday, November 10, that it was “delusional” for anyone to believe Ukraine could win the war, as its military announced the capture of three more villages along the vast front line. Moscow continues trying to exploit its advantage in manpower and equipment, though its territorial gains remain slow and costly almost four years after the full-scale invasion began.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said European leaders were misleading themselves by assuming Kyiv could secure victory through military force. He argued that the reality on the battlefield suggested the opposite.
Russia’s defence ministry reported that its forces had taken the villages of Slodkie and Nove in the Zaporizhzhia region, along with Gnativka in Donetsk. Peskov insisted the conflict would only end when Moscow achieves the goals it set out at the start of the invasion. Russia claims it is fighting to protect Russian speakers, prevent NATO from expanding eastward, and remove what it calls “neo-Nazis” from power in Ukraine, claims dismissed by Kyiv and Western governments as baseless.
Ukraine and its allies maintain that the war amounts to an imperial-style land grab that has killed tens of thousands and triggered the largest conflict in Europe since World War II. Attempts by US President Donald Trump to force a peace deal have stalled, with Moscow refusing to consider a ceasefire unless Ukraine fully withdraws from the Donbas and renounces Western military support. Kyiv has called those demands unacceptable and equivalent to surrender, arguing they would leave the country vulnerable to future attacks.
Peskov said Russia holds the initiative on the front and has no intention of stopping.
