Hashimu Mai Albasa, a resident of Alkalije in the Kilgori District of Yabo Local Government Area, Sokoto State, has revealed the lasting trauma communities face after repeated attacks by armed bandits. The report was published by Vanguard News on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
Mai Albasa said families can no longer sleep peacefully, with women and children living in constant fear. Many residents have fled their homes, abandoning farms and livestock, fearing further attacks. “We no longer sleep with both eyes closed. Our women and children live in constant fear,” he stated.
A community leader, speaking anonymously, added that the bandits operate with impunity, crossing from Kebbi State and Silame Local Government Area, attacking villages, and demanding money before disappearing into the forest. Residents fear that if security does not improve, the community may soon be deserted.
